LEVEL I DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Beginning Digital Photography focuses on the student gaining a solid understanding of their point and shoot or D-SLR camera. Each student will learn to use focus, depth of field, and exposure to attain the desired effect when taking (making) a picture. One class session will include a field trip to photograph one of the most diverse and interesting places in San Francisco, the SOMA Arts District. There are weekly shooting assignments that will be critiqued on a technical and artistic level. Students will also learn how to upload images and gain a foundation for photo-editing.

LEVEL 2 DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Intermediate Digital Photography furthers the skills learned in the Beginning Digital Class. We will quickly review the basic mechanics of the D-SLR camera, emphasizing the creative flexibility of the camera. This class is independently structured, with assignments intended to further your own interests in photography. Photoshop is introduced as the basic tool of the “Digital Darkroom”, and all basic photo editing is reviewed. Shooting and opening up files in RAW format, and H.D.R. imaging is included. In addition, there are two class field trips, one evening Shoot-Out in the SOMA area, and an in-house professional lighting studio shoot at RayKo. (Pre-req. Level 1 Digital Photo, or a solid understanding of the basic manual controls of a D-SLR or SLR camera: ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, Depth of Field and Proper Exposure)

Topics covered include tools, layers, masks, b/w image conversion, color spaces, and more. ADVANCED PHOTOSHOP & COMPOSITING
This 2-day intensive workshop will focus on broadening the student’s understanding and use of Photoshop. Day one will begin with an overview of fundamental digital imaging techniques: including advanced hands-on experience with alpha channels, layers, masks, color correction/manipulation, vector conversion, and other amazing digital imaging tools. Day two will emphasize personal aesthetic and technical development through Compositing: manipulating and combining images from different sources to create a unique and visually compelling hybrid digital image. There will be supportive group discussion and feedback, technical analysis, problem solving, and assistance from the instructor to create a series of visually cohesive artworks. (Pre-req. Level 1 Photoshop or basic understanding of layers, curves, and image resolution) (Bring : Notebook, pen, method of transporting files - Flash Drive, iPod, etc)

SCANNING & IMAGE WORKFLOW
A 3-hour hands on workshop geared toward those who want to understand how to achieve high quality scans from film, slides, or flat artwork. Work with professional film & flatbed scanners on G5 Mac computers. Learn about resolution, bit depth, levels, histograms, color balance, and more. You will walk away with high resolution archival images for digital murals, prints, and web/email. (Bring : Up to 20 - 35mm negs/slides, 120mm, and 4-6 prints) (Recommended Next Course: Digital Color Printing)

DIGITAL COLOR PRINTING
A 3-hour hands on workshop that shows you how to take your digital images from computer screen to print. Using consumer printers and high-end professional printers, we’ll cover monitor calibration, softproofing, ICC profiles, inks, papers, color spaces, and more. Paper and inks are supplied. Photoshop is used to setup, color correct, and print files, and the output devices are wide & small format Epson & Canon printers. (Bring : 6 - 8×10 images on disc)

A 3-hour hands on workshop that covers the details of B/W digital printing. Walk through converting color images to b/w in photoshop, discussion of inks, papers, normal printer drivers vs. RIP software, and more. Learn the details of a professional workflow that will make a world of difference in your printing. Paper and inks are supplied. ADOBE LIGHTROOM INTENSIVE
This 2-day intensive workshop introduces the fundamentals of Lightroom, and gives tips & tricks on how to professionally develop your digital images. Focus is on setup, workflow, organization, image management, rating, editing, non-destructive image processing, and delivery of images regardless of what type of output. The course includes some open lab time to work on your own images. Lightroom puts the focus on images being processed, and managing large volumes of images. Flash galleries, websites, and self-published books can be made from this single program, which works seamlessly with all Adobe and Macromedia programs. (Students Bring : 25 Unprocessed Images - RAW or Jpeg)

BLACK & WHITE DIGITAL NEGATIVE PRINTING
This 4-session course will introduce you to the world of printing B/W digital negatives. Take your digital files from scans or digital camera images and output onto transparency film for darkroom printing.  Create digital negatives to use with any contact-printing process, including platinum palladium, cyanotype, and more.  Lecture will demonstrate different types of digital negative output, and the lab portion will show you how to output digital inkjet negatives yourself.
